NEMO - New Mobility Design Conference

Designing Future Mobility as part of an International Building Exhibition: IBA2027 meets NEMO

After several NEMO Conferences in Stuttgart, Germany, and two editions in California, the Brussels conference aims at bringing together creative community with the mobility industry and policy makers active in the development of future urban infrastructure in Europe.
The design of user and environmentally friendly mobility concepts presents many opportunities for the creative industries. But the future ways in which we will move within cities and regions raise many questions: Which transportation methods and paths are needed in European regions and how will they have to be designed? How will they not only follow technical criteria but build on the urban culture and life style as well as topographic conditions of regions? Which role do designers play in those processes?
For the Stuttgart Region a big step towards future living and mobility is the International Building Exhibition (IBA) 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart. The Stuttgart Region is the cradle of the automotive industry, this tradition includes a growing responsibility for new traffic concepts. Between now and 2027, the IBA seeks to demonstrate mobility strategies which address current problems, taking into consideration the needs of citizens and the economy. The changes in future mobility will have a huge impact on urban development and the redesign
of public spaces.
The NEMO conference showcases solutions and best practice examples with the intention to combine different approaches, some of them visionary, some of them already implemented. We want to offer a platform to meet, exchange and learn. More than ever mobility is not only relevant alone for cities and regions anymore - it is part of how we want to live. Therefore it is crucial to develop sustainable policies and projects on a regional, European and global level.
