AlpFRail
co-funded under INTERREG III B
The aim of the project is to elaborate draft measures for operating solutions to improve transalpine rail freight links between the economically strong centres in the Alps and the neighbouring areas. Unlike previous attempts to find solutions, this project is not looking at one individual axis but at the entire rail freight network in the Alpine region. The idea is to organise rail transport on an international basis and to improve the conditions for shifting goods over to rail. The Stuttgart Region's main interest in this is strengthening connections with northern Italy and southern France, both to the metropolitan areas there and the Mediterranean ports, which at present are growing in importance particularly regarding routes to and from Asia due to their considerably shorter transport times. The project is being co-managed with partners from Baden-Württemberg, Austria, Bavaria, France and Italy.
