Gäu-Neckar-Bodensee-Bahn

co-funded under INTERREG III A

The project entails draft measures being co-developed with partners from Baden-Württemberg and Switzerland to upgrade rail links on the trans-frontier Gäu-Neckar-Lake Constance railway line. The infrastructure of the Gäu railway, which is totally inadequate since the second track south of Horb was demolished after World War II, no longer comes up to the standards required for modern-day passenger and goods transport. Since it is more than likely that the two-track facility throughout the line cannot be restored in the medium term in view of the costs involved, the idea is for this project to identify the most important and most effective "smaller" expansion measures and to submit them to cost estimate and evaluation, so that they can be enshrined in construction and funding programmes. From the Stuttgart Region's point of view the main intention is to increase timetable stability on regional and international connections, to re-introduce the intercity stop in Böblingen and to improve the chances of the service every 15 minutes being fully implemented on the suburban S 1 line right through to Herrenberg.
