The Stuttgart Region’s work in Europe – objectives and focus areas

The Stuttgart Region is one of Europe’s strongest economic regions. It is innovative and drives exports as well as having an excellent research infrastructure that is closely connected to business. People from 180 different countries live and work in the Stuttgart Region. Together with its location in the heart of Europe, this makes the Stuttgart Region a truly European and international region.

As Verband Region Stuttgart and Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation (EDC), we make an active contribution to shaping European policies in order to meet our responsibility within Europe. We are a voice for the interests of a strong region. We strive to ensure that the importance of strong metropolitan areas as engines for growth, innovation and sustainable development in Europe is recognised and enhanced.

The Stuttgart Region rises to the European challenges and grasps the opportunities that Europe offers: It initiates and implements EU projects, organises events and helps to shape European policy – via an office in Brussels and participation in European networks among other things. The European topic is one that is integrated in all business areas and departments in the daily work of Verband Region Stuttgart and Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation (EDC). Our exchange with partners all over Europe allows us to learn from each other and constantly improve our competitiveness.

The objectives of the Stuttgart Region’s work in Europe are:

  • To be involved in shaping European policy and funding policy
  • To implement funded projects
  • To gain insights through an exchange of experiences in networks
  • To position the Stuttgart Region as an innovative high-tech location with a good quality of life
  • To inform stakeholders in the region about current developments and funding programmes at EU level
  • To support regional partners, in particular municipalities

The work performed by the Stuttgart Region at European level is carried out by many different parties. People in the municipalities, in business, science and research are all working toward Europe in the Stuttgart Region – together, not on their own, in line with the motto of “combining forces”.

We warmly invite you to get to know our activities, projects and contact persons and to make use of our offering.
